Athletics Edge Angels In 19-Inning Battle

Aug 31, 2014 8:52 PM

Brandon Moss hit a two-run home run to give the Oakland Athletics a 10-8 win over the Los Angeles Angels in 19 innings on Monday night.

The game, which ended early Tuesday morning, was the longest game in the Major Leagues this season.

"It was a crazy game, and I'm glad it's over," Moss said. "That was exhausting, it really was."

The teams were on the field for 6 hours, 32 minutes in the marathon game. By time, it was the longest game ever played in Oakland -- and the longest in Angels history.

Uptons Make History With Back-To-Back HRs

Oct 18, 2014 7:09 PM

B.J. and Justin Upton hit back-to-back home runs for the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night, marking just the second time in Major League history that a pair of brothers have homered in consecutive at-bats.

Pittsburgh's Lloyd and Paul Waner accomplished the feat on Sept. 15, 1938.

It was the 27th time in Major League history that brothers homered in the same game.

The Uptons have homered in the same game three times this season.

Matt Moore Off To Best Start In Franchise History

Sep 17, 2014 2:18 AM

Tampa Bay Rays left-hander Matt Moore is off to a hot start this season.

In Monday's 5-1 win over the New York Yankees, Moore became the first pitcher in franchise history to post wins in each of his first four starts.

Moore allowed only two hits and struck out nine while working a career-high-matching eight innings.

"That's what you envision," manager Joe Maddon. "Stuff-wise, that's what we've been looking for."

Moore is 4-0 with a 1.04 ERA this month. He has notoriously had rough Aprils.

"There's been some adjustments here and there; I wouldn't say it's a philosophy or a routine change," the 23-year-old said. "I'm definitely not trying any harder than I have been in the past. So it's something, it may be comfortability, I don't really know what to speak of right now."

Felix Hernandez Beats Astros For Win No. 100

Sep 16, 2014 12:34 AM

After failing to do so in his last three starts, Seattle Mariners right-hander Felix Hernandez beat the Houston Astros on Monday night to capture his 100th victory.

"Finally," Hernandez said with a smile. "It took too long."

He pitched six scoreless innings and Seattle homered three times to back him up in a 7-1 win.

"Tonight I was like: 'You've got to do it (Monday). You can't wait more and more time. You've just got to go out there and have a good game,'" he said.

Hernandez (2-2) joins Jamie Moyer (145) and Randy Johnson (130) as the only pitchers to reach 100 wins with the Mariners.

Buchholz Flirts With Second No-Hitter Against Rays

Sep 25, 2014 8:30 PM

Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz flirted with the second no-hitter of his career on Sunday afternoon against the Tampa Bay Rays.

He would have become just the 27th pitcher in Major League history to accomplish the feat.

Buchholz tossed a no-hitter on Sept. 1, 2007, when he was just a rookie.

Desmond Jennings doubled in the top of the eight inning, ending the pitcher's chance at history.
